About Aldermore

Aldermore is a UK bank founded in 2009, providing savings accounts alongside specialist lending services for individuals and businesses. Aldermore Bank plc forms part of Aldermore Group, which is owned by FirstRand Group.

The bank offers personal savings products including easy access accounts, notice accounts, regular savings, fixed rate accounts and Cash ISAs. It also provides business savings accounts and other financial services, including mortgages and business finance.

Aldermore operates through online and telephone services rather than a traditional high-street branch network. Customers can apply for personal savings accounts online and manage their accounts through Aldermore’s banking services, subject to the arrangements for each product.

For further information about the bank, visit Aldermore’s official website.

Opening and Managing Aldermore Savings Accounts

Aldermore allows customers to apply for personal savings accounts online. Applicants generally need to be at least 18 years old, resident and solely tax resident in the UK, and hold a UK bank or building society account in their name.

Making deposits

During the application, Aldermore requests personal information and details of a nominated bank account. Existing customers can also apply for additional savings products through Aldermore’s internet banking service.

Managing accounts online

Deposits can be made electronically from a nominated UK bank or building society account using Faster Payments, BACS, CHAPS or standing orders. Aldermore does not accept cash or cheque deposits into its personal savings accounts.

Withdrawals and account access

Deposit arrangements vary by product. Easy access and notice accounts generally permit additional deposits while the account remains open, whereas fixed rate accounts have a limited initial funding period. Regular savings accounts may impose monthly contribution limits.

Aldermore provides an internet banking service where customers can check account balances, view interest rates and transaction statements, manage personal details and open additional accounts.

Customers can also submit withdrawal instructions, provide notice for withdrawals where required and give maturity instructions for fixed rate accounts approaching the end of their term.

Withdrawal arrangements depend on the type of savings account. Easy access accounts generally permit withdrawals without a notice period, while notice accounts require advance instructions.

Fixed rate accounts typically restrict access during the agreed term, although Cash ISA withdrawal and closure arrangements may differ.

Customers should consult the individual product terms for applicable restrictions, notice requirements and any early-access conditions.

How Are Aldermore Savings Accounts Protected?

Find out how Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protection applies to eligible deposits held with Aldermore, including savings accounts and Cash ISAs.

FSCS protection for Aldermore savings

Aldermore Bank plc is covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), the UK’s deposit guarantee scheme.

How the protection limit applies

The standard FSCS deposit protection limit is £120,000 per eligible person, per authorised firm, following an increase from £85,000 on 1 December 2025.

Checking your savings protection

This protection applies to eligible deposits held in Aldermore savings accounts and Cash ISAs. If Aldermore were unable to meet its financial obligations, the FSCS could compensate eligible depositors up to the applicable limit.

The £120,000 limit applies to the combined balance of eligible deposits held with the same authorised institution, rather than separately to each savings account.

For example, someone holding £70,000 in an Aldermore fixed rate savings account and £40,000 in an Aldermore Cash ISA would have combined eligible deposits of £110,000, within the standard protection limit.

Joint accounts may qualify for protection of up to £240,000 in total, provided both account holders are eligible. Each person’s share also counts towards their individual protection limit.

The FSCS protection limit applies per authorised firm. Different banking brands can sometimes operate under the same banking authorisation, meaning deposits across those brands may be combined when calculating compensation.

Savers can check the protection applicable to their accounts using the FSCS Bank & Savings Protection Checker.
